Addressed and franked by Mary Lincoln to carry her by
precious gift of a lock of Lincoln’s hair.

General Ricketts is in Washington to serve on the court-martial
panel of 
Maj. Gen. Fitz John Porter.

Mrs. Ricketts Postal Cover:


This cover addressed to Fannie originally carried a note
regarding the Oct. 1864 wounding of General Ricketts at
Cedar Creek.


The envelope with Fannie’s  penciled notation was retained
as part of the packet housing her lock of the President’s
hair.

The original note  regarding the wounding of  
husband, Gen. Ricketts.
