Saddle Bags of George W. Cross
who was an 18 year old Gardner Maine resident when he enlisted and was mustered in as a Private just three days before Christmas in 1863. He served in Co. I, 2nd Maine Cavalry promoting to Corporal before mustering out with his regiment in December 1865. Active in the G. A. R., Cross’s membership medal sporting the eagle suspension bar and yellow of a national officer in the veteran organization.
